I should have stayed home…

by Jamie on July 13, 2010

It all started when…

I stopped by CVS during my lunch to see what deals I could find.  I was checking out and handed the cashier my extra bucks, a few which were expired.  The cashier wasn’t sure what to do with them because it was only her third day and she called up the manager for assistance.  No problem.

No problem, until some woman comes to the register that I had never seen.  My first thought was that she must be some sort of regional manager because I had never seen her before.  The cashier explains that my extra bucks are expired and this woman starts telling the cashier that they DON’T accept expired extra bucks.

Huh? Since when?  She goes on to say that customers need to use their extra bucks before they expire and that an occasional exception will be made for customers who have been travelling or sick and have expired extra bucks.  BUT even in those cases the expired extra bucks needed to be use within a week (unless you have been travelling overseas you may be able to use them up to a month past the expiration… I’m not making that up, she really said that).

Curiosity got the best of me and I had to find out who this lady was…  I’m sorry, I’ve never seen you before. I’m Jamie, who are you?  I’m the store manager.  The store manager? Yes.  Where is Jim Bob (name has been changed)?  He transferred to another store, I’m the store manager now.

I could have busted out in tears, seriously. After the manager stepped away, the sweet cashier kept saying, it’ll be okay… take a deep breath… it’ll be okay.  IT WILL NOT BE OKAY.

Sniff…sniff…

I can totally relate. A similar situation happened to me a while back. I still miss Nate. *sniff* So sorry that you have an un-friendly coupon manager now. I hope it gets better but in my case it has not. I've considered quitting CVS altogether but I just go in for the bare minimums and I try to avoid scenarios that I know will cause conflict, which is practically anything. Contacting corporate (in an over abundantly nice way) has done me zero good as well. My new (well, old) manager just has no people skills. Ugh!

I hope things get better… I think I’m still in the denial stage. It just happened so quickly, don’t they know that I need advance notice on stuff like this??!! LOL!

You could have told them you had been out of town, since you were. :O) So the question is, did they let you use them?

Yes, she did take them and I told her I had many more were those came from… lol. I've been spending alot of time in CVS this week trying to use them up! Luckily I did have a legit excuse. :) Guess I'll have to get a DR. note if I want to use anymore expired extra bucks.

Sorry you had such a bad time. At most of my local CVS stores they will not accept expired extra bucks. Never have. there is 1 however that will accept them only up to a week after the expiration date. This has been the general rule around here for years. I try whenever possible to roll my ecb into something even if it is something I have no use for, and if I can't find anything to do that… I will just purchase something that I can get a rebate for or something else I can use. As a last resort I will pick up gift items or greeting cards.

It was just such a surprise. I had been out of town for just a few days, came back and everything had changed :( I was just spoiled before and it's something . new I'll have to get use to. I'll have to be more diligent about using them before they expire now. :)

I have definitely had days like that before at my Walgreens. As soon as I get comfortable with the cashiers and manager, they all transfer. I don't get it! Then you have to deal with new regulations and who's going to be the next nazi coupon lady that you have to watch out for. Ugh! I feel your pain!

It's terrible, I really liked this manager, and he was sooo coupon friendly. This lady seems all business… didn't crack a smile once! I like people who smile.. lol.
