CVS $5 Challenge 1/9

by Jamie on January 9, 2011

5dollarchallenge_150x150

The purpose of the CVS $5 Challenge is to come up with the best scenarios (up to 3 transactions) for the upcoming week using the current weekly ad.  The goal is to keep the total out of pocket expense $5 or less, while still growing your Extra Care Bucks.

I am assuming that you are starting out with ZERO extra bucks.  If you’re starting out with Extra Bucks, great!, your OOP will be very small (maybe even zero)!

Just starting out?  For more information on the abbreviations used, please see my Coupon Abbreviations post. For additional information about shopping at CVS, check out my CVS 101 post.

Here’s what I would do if I were just starting….

$5 CVS Transaction
7- Finish Gelpacs or Powerball tabs 2- ct- $3 each (=$21)
-use 7-$2.25 Finish coupon (1/2 SS)
= $4.75 Profit after coupons & $10 EB

Total Out of Pocket- $5.25 + tax
Extra Bucks Earned- $10
Profit: $4.75

OR

Buy 5- Finish Tablets- $3 each (= $15)
-use 5- $2.25 Finish coupons (1/2 SS) = $3.75
Buy 1- Air Wick Ultra- $6
-use $4/1 Air Wick Ultra (1/2 SS) = $2
= $4.25 Profit after coupons & $10 EB

Total Out of Pocket= $5.75 + tax
Extra Bucks Earned- $10
Profit: $4.25
