July Rollarcoaster Budget Recap!

by Jamie on August 1, 2009

July Budget Recap

A BIG thanks to all of you who have left me encouraging comments in light of my recent expensive car troubles! I will not let this get me down! :) Heck, I wouldn’t get to enjoy my emergency fund if stuff like this didn’t happen every once in a while, right? I’m going to say this again (and will probably say it 100 times after this one) YOU NEED AN EMERGENCY FUND! If you haven’t started one read this article – Do I Need An Emergency Fund?- and find out why you do!

  • After taking a loss last month. We were able to add back $700 to our new roof fund. Our Roof fund stands at $4,251.48 ….that’s only $748.52 to our $5,000 goal. Our first roof estimate came in at $4,830.00 (don’t think it included skylight replacement), the second roof estimate was around $6000, and yesterday a third roofer came to take a look but needed to go back and calculate an estimate. Best case scenario is that we’re able to get insurance to cover the cost of the roof and the money saved can be rolled over into our Emergency Savings!
  • I spent $11.53 on grocery/health & beauty purchases this month. That’s $68.47 under budget.
  • After announcing my BHAG to the world my car had to have a new transmission! Eek! Luckily they were able to locate a used transmission to fit my car (a rebuilt transmission would have cost $3,000!). The transmission was $550 and labor was $411.00. After tax and transmission fluid the total came to $1018.92.
  • To top it all off, there’s now something wrong with my steering column because it takes me me several minutes of wiggling my car key and turning the steering wheel to get my key to turn so I can start the car. I’ve actually had this happen several years ago and had to have the steering column replaced. If I recall correctly it was a couple hundred dollars to fix.
  • I still have yet to spend a single penny at CVS!
  • I added $1024.80 to my savings, however that will be used to pay for this month’s car repairs.
  • I submitted $28.99 in mail-in-rebates for July.
  • I received $13.76 in mail-in-rebate checks.

Free Ritz & Trisuits @ CVS

by Jamie on March 23, 2009

Super Slow week @ CVS! I had $4.00 in Extra Bucks expiring this week and this is all I could come up with to spend it . LOL!

I had some $2.00 off 2 Ritz, Wheat Thins, or Triscuits (any variety) coupons left (since CVS quickly sold out of the $1.00 Ritz and Wheat Thins boxes last week). I found these “Big Bag” versions of Triscuits and Ritz Bits for $0.99 each on a snack display (the one that holds planters snack size peanuts/trail mixes) and since the coupon stated ANY VARIETY of Ritz, Wheat Thins, or Triscuits I decided it was worth a try! I purchased four for a total of $3.96. The first $2.00 coupon went through and the second “beeped” due to total remaining being less than the $2.00 coupon. The cashier adjusted the coupon with no problem.

1-Crest ProHealth Enamel Shield-$3.49; FREE after Extra Bucks (Limit 1)
-used $1.00 Crest ProHealth Man. Coupon (2.8.09 RP)
-$1.00 Profit After Extra Bucks

2- Triscuits “Big Bag”-$0.99 each
-used 2-$2.00/2 Ritz, Wheat Thins, or Triscuits (1.25.09 SS)
-FREE after Q

2-Ritz bits “Big Bag”-$0.99 each
-used 2-$2.00/2 Ritz, Wheat Thins, or Triscuits
-Free After Q (because they are $0.99 each the coupon will “beep” and have to adjusted by the cashier. It is CVS policy to adjust coupons, if the cashier refuses call customer service.)

2- CVS Gold Emblem Candy (6.5 oz, bigger bags)- $0.99 each
-used $1.00 off CVS Gold Emblem Candy CRT

1-Russell Stovers Maple Cream Egg- $0.50 (filler)

Total Before Coupons-$9.93
Extra Bucks Used-$4.00
Total Out of Pocket-$0.06; paid with my CVS gift card
Extra Bucks Earned-$3.49
