THE GIVEAWAY BELOW IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED.
I love peppers and tomatoes! I especially love eating homegrown peppers and tomatoes. Last year I was inspired to dip my toes into gardening as way to stretch our budget and add more healthy foods to our diet. I was surprised at just how easy (and rewarding) it was to grow our own food!
Don’t get me wrong, there are start-up costs to establishing your garden, but there are ways to minimize these expenses-like starting your own seeds! Instead of spending $3-$5 a plant you can easily purchase 25 seeds for the same amount! This year I decided to invest in Heirloom seeds after reading Phoebe’s post about why Heirloom Seeds are a cost effective option. Phoebe points out that with heirloom seeds you are able to plant your seeds, consume the produce, and then harvest the seeds to be planted again! So, while heirloom seeds are initially more expensive, they are truly an investment since you can plant them year to year!
Why Growing Your Own Garden Is Thrifty:
1.) Growing your own produce frees up money in your grocery budget!
2.) The healthier you eat, the healthier you’ll be! And hopefully this translates into lower health care costs for you and your family!
3.) It is free entertainment and makes for the perfect family project!
4.) Many foods you grow in a garden can be preserved, canned, frozen, etc to provide your family with healthy homegrown food until the next growing season!
To sweeten Thrifty Tip Tuesday, MUD and Sara of Axiom sent me THREE (3) pairs of the brand new MUD PUDDLES for Kids gardening gloves to giveaway to I Am A Money Magnet Readers!
As the popularity of gardening continues to grow, parents are seeing real benefits of including their children in the fun! The new Mud® Puddles gloves were created to offer kids the same comfort, durability and protection found throughout the adult-sized Mud Glove® line.
Mud Puddles are modeled after “The Original” Mud Glove® and offer the same quality construction and durability in a kid friendly size. Not only do they have the same soft cotton liner for comfort, they also retain the extra tough latex coating that protects little hands and keeps them dry. Additionally, the preformed finger design reduces hand fatigue and the Gardenerʼs Touch textured grip makes it easy to hold onto the slickest of pots, while the form-fitting cuff keeps out dirt and debris.
Best of all, Mud Puddles gloves are completely machine washable. The new Mud Puddles are available in Frog (green) or Flamingo (pink) at a cost of $5.99 per pair.
Cute huh?! I received a pair Mud Puddles for Kids in Frog (green) at a party I attended during Blissdom. Not only are theses gloves durable, they are the most adorable kids gardening gloves I’ve seen! These will be perfect for putting my nieces and nephew to work when they come to visit. :)
